Nordic Council of Ministers Office in Lithuania in early 2024 announced third call for the Nordic Media Grants Programme for Belarus (2024-2025), which aims on strengthening democracy and civil society in the country through support of independent media and media arts.
As a result, 17 media projects were supported totaling 355,600 EUR. Grantees were Belarusian independent media outlets, journalists and media artists based in Belarus, and abroad. More than 150 applications were received for the call.
3rd call for 2024 is followed by the training program “Strengthening independent media: elevating content quality, project management and viability” for independent Belarusian media, organized by Fojo Media Institute https://fojo.se/en/ (SE) together with Nordic Journalist Centre (DK), Institute of Journalism in Norway and Belarusian partners, and funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers Office in Lithuania. This initiative provides capacity building trainings to selected representatives from independent Belarusian media. Trainings on Modern Journalism Formats, Solution-oriented journalism and Planning and managing journalism projects are being carried out.
The overall goal of the Nordic Media Grants Programme for Belarus is to support Belarusian independent journalism and media arts initiatives and facilitate the production of high-quality, trustworthy and diverse content for Belarusian people on the developments in the country.
Who can apply? Applications can be submitted by Belarusian independent media outlets, Belarusian journalists, Belarusian creators of visual, artistic, interdisciplinary media content and non-Belarusian media outlets, which employ or contract Belarusian journalists, and produce content on situation in Belarus.
The evaluation of the proposals will start after the open call is closed. All the applicants will be notified by the end of March 2024. All applications should be submitted in English.
Funding: The size of a grant can range from 5.000 EUR to maximum of 30.000 EUR. The total sum available for grants is approximately 300.000 EUR.
Duration: The maximum duration of granted project – 12 months.
